Hi my names Rachel,
I'm a single parent of 2 beautiful boys, my eldest is of school age, 11 with Aspergers. School isn't working, he wants to fit in but is finding it so difficult, it's so hard to sit back watching what feels like a train-crash slowly happening. I want to help preserve his wonderful, kind and loveable spirit, I want to help him get the best and most enjoyable education he can experience, I feel I can and will give that to him if he lets me. His dad who my son goes to at weekends is slowly but surely coming round to the same realisation as me, I just need more info to help seal the deal as his support would be really beneficial. I was hoping to put together a HE proposal for my son and his dad that would outline options for study i.e. Various study programs available, local groups etc. Any advice, suggestions, comments would be very welcome.

Thanks for reading :)

Welcome to the forum.

Does the eldest attend primary school or secondary school?

Welcome.

There quite a few home educating families who have used the transition between primary and secondary school as a golden opportunity to start home educating because the child automatically deregisters on finishing primary school. If the child has started secondary school then parents have to submit a letter to deregister the child to the head teacher and the local authority is aware that the the child is home educated. It really anything to worry about in practice although an inspector might request a visit or two.
